Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Aleph Auction?
The Aleph Auction is really not an auction but simply a RAFFLE with many prizes. You purchase tickets of various amounts, from $10 to $100 for different prize calibers. The better the prize, the more the ticket costs. There is no bidding involved nor are any prizes sold for the ticket cost. Your purchased ticket will go into a lottery box and be hand-picked on the night of the auction in front of a large crowd on the evening of February 7, 2012.
When will the rest of the prizes be available for tickets purchases?
We expect the nearly 100 other prizes to be available for raffle tickets purchasing in late December.
What is the drawing date for the Chinese Auction?
Saturday, February 7, 2015 (evening)
How will I know if I win a prize?
If you are not at the actual event, one of our representatives will contact you if your name is picked.
Can I use Maaser money to purchase tickets?
The general guidelines given are that you are allowed to use Maaser money to purchase auction tickets as the money is going to charity. If you win a prize, the money paid for the ticket must be returned to the Maaser Cheshbon. One would also be required to give maaser for the value of the prize won as well. We encourage you to ask your local Rabbi for further information regarding your own personal circumstances.
Will my tax deductible receipt show the full amount of my donation if I am the winner of a prize?
The receipt will show the donation amount, less the prize (value to be determined by you or an official appraiser.) We are governed my legal restrictions that state no goods or services may be received in exchange for the donation.
I live in Canada, what kind of tax-deductible receipt can I expect?
We will send you a receipt for the amount of your donation in U.S. Dollars. The rest is up to you.
Can I exchange my purchased tickets for another prize of the same value?
Yes. While we cannot allow refunds, we do allow exchanges of equal amounts. If your order is placed online, you can exchange by e-mailing us in the contact page.
